As we promised in our last post, here’s the first making of. The making of explains our latest work “Vans - With Or Without?”
The Illustration Part:
1:
We start illustration projects always with some rough sketches and ideas. It helps us to figure out in which direction we want to go. In this phase there is already a concept behind everything, but I skipped that part in this making of. One of the first tries of the foot.

This sketch was our favorite one, because it included exactly the things we wanted to show and to communicate. Therefore we decided to work with this visual idea and take this a few steps further.

We did everything by hand, and colored the whole thing with watercolors. The brief was to create something which communicates that skateboarding without Vans shoes isn’t possible at all.
The Typography Part:
4:
Typography is always a very important part. Therefore I suggest to try always a lot of different type treatments. The first idea was to do something street art like, stencils etc. ! We really liked it though we really wanted to have something more human

BLOOD - actually it’s real blood, no fake. It’s Juergen’s blood. We had to try various treatments really quick because blood dry’s so fast.

The final pieces were scanned and then refined in photoshop.
